Sanjeevaraya temple - Ramanagara District(60 kms) from bangalore- Suitable for a evening drive aka Temple visit
2nd August 2020
It was a Sunday, where we all were craving for a long drive in our car in the midst of Covid restrictions. Covid pandemic spread, lockdown fever and protocol to travel with masks, sanitisers and home food were inevitable for the day.
We as a family decided to do a impromptu visit to a Hanuman temple by name Sanjeevaraya temple in Ramanagara district, in Karnataka. It was situated at a shor distance of 60 kms from Konankunte cross, Kanakapura main road.
Route- Kengeri, Ramanagara, Kengal Anjaneya temple
Once you reach the Kengal Anjaneya temple which is on the Mysore highway after Ramanagara, you slow down since you have to take a right turn in 1 km. there is small arch which you might loose sight if you drive fast.
You have to take the right , where you hit a railway level crossing within 100 meters. It is a village road(very narrow one) where you have to drive with care. You can see the bustling villagers on the streets especially if it is a evening time they enjoy the nature by coming out of their house and sharing their day's experience.
You have to drive for 5 kms to reach the temple which is a single sanctum. A km before reaching the temple, we came across a Tomato farm where the farmer and his family were struggling to tie the wires to the pole in order to ensure that vegetable bearing plants doesn't touch the ground. We stopped to have a chat and requested the farmer for selling us the tomatoes. These were garden fresh tomatoes which was half gunny bag weighing easily more than 10 kgs. We paid the farmer for the tomatoes and reached the temple well before the opening time (6.45 Pm). The Poojari's house is next to the temple so you can check with him as well.
It is a serene environment and temple is indeed a very old one with stones patched up with cement to prevent it from falling.
Temple has a huge stone idol of Hanuman called Sanjeeva raya. He is the one and only deity. You can't express the feeling as you stand before the deity.Calm and serene.
As we were inside the temple, it started raining and it was a heavy rain with heavy winds. It rained for almost 30 minutes, giving rise to the earthy smell which ou smell when the land becomes moist.
Speciality of the Temple - The road from the temple leads to the Kanva reservoir. Story goes something like this. Saint Kanva was meditating from a distance away from the temple when heard the sound of "Om" lingering around. Those days it used be a forest area. Saint Kanva followed the Om sound and reached the place of the temple where lord himself appeared before the Kanva magarishi stating that he is present there and wanted the saint to anoint him at that place with his Kamandalu water.
There is no nithya abhisheka for the deity. They do abhisheka once in a year with holy herbs from the near by forest. These herbs are specially ordered for the once in a year event.
We left the temple after a divine darshan and reached bangalore safely.
If you feel to have a spiritual calm evening time, this is a best place to visit within 90 minutes from bangalore.
